Aprender a conversar de verdade

Most language apps are good at getting you to recognise words. Far fewer prepare you for the real, slightly messy moment of speaking to another person. Oi is built for that moment. Every part of it points toward one thing: leaving a session feeling more able to hold a real conversation than you were before.

A maioria dos apps de idiomas é boa em fazer você reconhecer palavras. Bem poucos preparam você para o momento real, e meio bagunçado, de falar com outra pessoa. O Oi foi feito para esse momento. Cada parte dele aponta para uma coisa: sair de uma sessão se sentindo mais capaz de manter uma conversa de verdade do que antes.

Built around the CEFR framework

Baseado no quadro do CEFR

Oi's levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), the international standard used across Europe and by exam boards around the world. It runs from A1 for a true beginner up to C2 for near-native mastery. We describe Oi as aligned to the CEFR levels. We don't claim to be an official certification, and we only put a level on a piece of content once we've checked that it genuinely fits.

Os níveis do Oi seguem o Quadro Europeu Comum de Referência (CEFR), o padrão internacional usado em toda a Europa e por bancas de exame no mundo todo. Ele vai do A1, para quem é iniciante de verdade, até o C2, de domínio quase nativo. Descrevemos o Oi como alinhado aos níveis do CEFR. Não afirmamos ser uma certificação oficial, e só colocamos um nível em um conteúdo depois de conferir que ele realmente se encaixa.

Here is what each level means in practice, described by what you can actually do with the language:

Aqui está o que cada nível significa na prática, descrito pelo que você realmente consegue fazer com a língua:

• A1 · Beginner. You handle the first essentials. You greet people, introduce yourself, and ask and answer simple questions about who you are and where you're from, getting by with familiar everyday phrases when someone speaks slowly.
• A2 · Elementary. You manage short, routine exchanges. You order food, shop, and talk about your day, your family, and your work in simple terms, and you can deal with the practical situations that come up while travelling.
• B1 · Intermediate. You hold your own in conversation on familiar topics, cope with most situations that arise abroad, and tell a simple story about your experiences, plans, and opinions.
• B2 · Upper intermediate. You talk with enough ease that a conversation with a native speaker runs smoothly for both of you. You take part in discussion and explain your point of view on a range of subjects.
• C1 · Advanced. You express yourself fluently and naturally, use the language flexibly for social, academic, and work purposes, and follow longer, more demanding material.
• C2 · Mastery. You understand virtually everything you hear and read with ease, and express yourself precisely, catching finer shades of meaning even in complex situations.

• A1 · Iniciante. Você dá conta do essencial dos primeiros passos. Você cumprimenta, se apresenta e faz e responde perguntas simples sobre quem é e de onde vem, se virando com frases do dia a dia quando falam devagar.
• A2 · Elementar. Você lida com trocas curtas e rotineiras. Você pede comida, faz compras e fala do seu dia, da sua família e do seu trabalho em termos simples, e resolve as situações práticas que aparecem numa viagem.
• B1 · Intermediário. Você se mantém numa conversa sobre temas familiares, resolve a maioria das situações que surgem fora do país e conta de forma simples suas experiências, planos e opiniões.
• B2 · Intermediário superior. Você fala com naturalidade suficiente para uma conversa fluir bem para os dois lados. Você participa de discussões e explica seu ponto de vista sobre vários assuntos.
• C1 · Avançado. Você se expressa com fluência e naturalidade, usa a língua com flexibilidade para fins sociais, acadêmicos e de trabalho, e acompanha materiais mais longos e exigentes.
• C2 · Domínio. Você entende com facilidade praticamente tudo o que ouve e lê, e se expressa com precisão, percebendo nuances até em situações complexas.

How your level shapes Oi

Como o seu nível molda o Oi

Your level is the compass for everything. When you start, you tell us where you are, or check with a quick self-assessment, and from then on the vocabulary, grammar, practice, and pen-pal difficulty are all tuned to it. You're never dropped into content that sits above you, and when you're ready to move up, the whole app moves with you.

O seu nível é a bússola de tudo. Quando você começa, diz onde está, ou confere com uma autoavaliação rápida, e daí em diante o vocabulário, a gramática, a prática e a dificuldade do amigo de correspondência ficam todos ajustados a ele. Você nunca é jogado num conteúdo acima do seu nível, e quando estiver pronto para subir, o app inteiro sobe com você.

To keep our levels honest, we check them against trusted Portuguese sources, including Instituto Camões, the CIPLE exam specification, and Portugal's free Plataforma de Português Online. The idea is simple: an "A2" here should mean what an "A2" means anywhere else.

Calm by design

Calmo por natureza

There are no streaks to keep alive here, and no points or leaderboards. Nothing pings you to say you've fallen behind. Those mechanics can build a short-term habit, but they also add pressure and a quiet sense of guilt, which is the opposite of what helps an adult learn to speak. Oi is calm on purpose. It's meant to feel like a patient teacher who's glad you showed up, not a game you owe something to.

Aqui não há streaks para manter vivas, nem pontos ou rankings. Nada te avisa que você ficou para trás. Esses mecanismos até criam um hábito de curto prazo, mas também trazem pressão e uma culpa silenciosa, que é o oposto do que ajuda um adulto a aprender a falar. O Oi é calmo de propósito. Ele quer ser como um professor paciente que fica feliz por você ter aparecido, não um jogo com quem você tem uma dívida.

A companion for real moments

Um companheiro para os momentos reais

Sometimes you're learning for its own sake. Other times you have a specific occasion on the horizon, like a trip abroad or a first dinner with your partner's family. When that happens, you can tell your pen pal what's coming and rehearse the real conversation ahead of time, so you arrive ready instead of improvising under pressure.

Às vezes você aprende só pelo prazer de aprender. Outras vezes você tem uma ocasião específica no horizonte, como uma viagem ou um primeiro jantar com a família do seu parceiro. Quando isso acontece, você pode contar ao seu amigo de correspondência o que vem por aí e ensaiar a conversa real com antecedência, para chegar preparado em vez de improvisar sob pressão.

The real, spoken language

A língua real, falada

The Portuguese in Oi is Brazilian Portuguese as people actually speak it, not a stiff textbook version. Words come with audio from real voices, so you learn how they sound and not just how they're spelled. When something needs a native check, it gets one before it reaches you.

O português do Oi é o português brasileiro do jeito que as pessoas realmente falam, não uma versão dura de livro didático. As palavras vêm com áudio de vozes reais, para você aprender como elas soam e não só como se escrevem. Quando algo precisa da conferência de um nativo, ele passa por essa conferência antes de chegar até você.
